Laparoscopic/Robotic Surgery
Laparoscopic surgery enables surgeons to perform complex procedures inside the abdomen without the need for large incisions or placing their hands directly into the body. Instead, the surgery is carried out using specialized, miniaturized instruments inserted through small keyhole-sized incisions, using ports called trocars. To create enough space for the operation, the abdominal cavity is gently inflated with carbon dioxide gas.
A high-definition digital camera, attached to a telescope-like lens and inserted through one of the ports, provides a clear, magnified view of the internal organs on a monitor. Because the incisions are much smaller than in traditional open surgery, patients typically experience less postoperative pain, reduced blood loss, and a lower need for blood transfusions, along with faster recovery times.
What is Laparoscopic Surgery?
Also known as keyhole surgery, laparoscopic surgery involves making small incisions through which a camera (laparoscope) and fine instruments are inserted. The surgeon operates by viewing a magnified image of the internal organs on a screen.
Benefits:
Smaller incisions
Less post-operative pain
Shorter hospital stay
Faster recovery time
Minimal scarring
Lower risk of infection
What is Robotic Surgery?
Robotic-assisted surgery is a highly advanced form of laparoscopic surgery. It uses a robotic system controlled by the surgeon to perform extremely precise movements. The most widely used system is the da Vinci® Surgical System, known for its accuracy and enhanced 3D visualization.
Benefits:
Greater surgical precision
Enhanced control and flexibility
Reduced blood loss
Lower complication rates
Quicker return to normal activities
Common Andrological & Urological Procedures
Laparoscopic and robotic techniques are commonly used for:
Varicocelectomy – Removal of enlarged veins in the scrotum
Vasectomy reversal
Orchidopexy – Correction of undescended testis
Sperm retrieval for infertility
Prostate surgery – For benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or prostate cancer
Kidney surgeries – Removal of kidney stones, tumors, or partial nephrectomy
Adrenal gland surgery
Pelvic lymph node dissection – For cancer evaluation or treatment
Why Choose Minimally Invasive Surgery?
Choosing laparoscopic or robotic surgery means:
Less trauma to your body
Faster healing and reduced downtime
Improved surgical outcomes
